NEW DELHI, JULY 31. A Delhi court has summoned the Union Minister of State for Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes, the Congress MP from Karol Bagh here, Krishna Tirath, and the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries, Mukul Wasnik and Ambika Soni, in connection with a two-year-old case of criminal intimidation and rioting. The Metropolitan Magistrate, Siddharth Sharma, asked these accused persons to appear before the court on September 8. The case was registered on August 2, 2002, on a complaint by Purnima Sethi, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Delhi Minister, accusing these Congress leaders of indulging in rioting and criminally intimidating her when she had sat on a dharna outside the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi's resident, 10 Janpath, to protest the murder of Atma Ram, then member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), allegedly by his party colleague in the civic body Sharda Jain. The court had earlier summoned them on July 17 but they failed to appear. Mr. Fernandes and Ms.Tirath had sought and got exemption from personal appearance to attend the Budget Session of Parliament, while Ms. Soni and Mr. Wasnik were not served with the summons. The court issued fresh summons against all the four.
