Goods train derails

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 31 .Rail traffic on the busy Delhi-Mumbai section was disrupted for around eight hours today after two oil tankers of a goods train derailed near Tughlakabad railway station in South Delhi. As a result, the movement of over a dozen trains, including some important express trains, got delayed for hours.

According to reports, around 6 a.m. a goods train carrying empty oil tankers was passing through Tughlakabad railway station when two of its coaches derailed blocking rail traffic on Mumbai-Delhi main line. Soon railway authorities swung into action and started work to remove the derailed tankers and repair the tracks. In the meantime, rail traffic on this route was diverted on a loop line, but as the traffic was heavy on this section, it led to train traffic built-up on this route.

Besides affecting movement of around half-a-dozen passenger trains, it also delayed important trains like the AP Express (five hours), Pashchim Express (90 minutes), Karnataka Express (one hour), Mumbai Rajdhani (one hour) and Kerala Express. Normal traffic on the affected track was restored only after 2 p.m.
