Renovated GH ward opened

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, AUG. 1. The renovated Critical Illness Ward of the General Hospital (GH) was inaugurated here today by Minister of Fisheries and Excise, K.V. Thomas. The ward was renovated by the Lions District 324 E-4 at a cost of Rs.4 lakhs as its yearly project.

The ward, which mostly catered to patients who had no one to look after, was in a dilapidated condition. New beds, cots and pillows were also provided in the 15-bed ward which had chronically ill patients who were brought from the streets. The ward has new floor tiles and new roofing. The project will be completed after renovating the bathrooms and toilets too.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the mindset of the people had to change for Kerala to regain its top position in many fields that the State had held earlier. Even now, the State had many firsts — in the number of cases of suicides and alcoholics, he added with a note of sarcasm.

The District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, dedicated the ward. The Superintendent of the hospital, K.N. Omana, spoke.
