KOCHI, AUG. 1. The CPI(M) Cheranelloor local committee today prevented the attempts to fill a paddy field near the Retreat Centre at Chittoor in Cheranelloor panchayat. The CPI(M) workers, led by the local committee secretary, K.J. Divine, blocked the land-filling of the paddy field belonging to a private person. According to Mr. Divine, the filling was being attempted without obtaining the necessary permissions. The owner had obtained only a No Objection Certificate from the Cheranelloor panchayat secretary instead of proper permissions from Revenue officials starting with the District Collector, he said. The committee took out a protest march led by Cheranelloor panchayat members, block panchayat members and leaders of the Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union. It will take out a march to the Cheranelloor village office on Monday demanding the cancellation of the NOC. The Cheranelloor police, however, said the land-filling was being carried out with adequate permissions from the District Collector. A case has been registered against those who blocked the work, said the police.
