Demand to drop Narendran report

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, AUG. 1. A general body meeting of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha Tripunithura unit has demanded the scrapping of the Narendran Commission report and to ensure reservation of government jobs on economic basis.

The meeting with the district president, P.S. Raman, presiding pointed out that the present reservation based on casteist basis was affecting the Brahmin community the most, many members of which were living in penury. "The simple offence is that we are born in the so called forward community and even for promotions the Brahmin members are bypassed." The UDF Government which promised to implement reservation on economic basis in phases is doing a harm to the community by taking steps to implement the Narendran Commission report, the meeting pointed out.

The Tripunithura MLA, K. Babu, who gave away the prizes for the talented students of the community for excelling in the SSLC, HSC and CBSE examinations, said the Congress party in the State was yet to decide on the Narendran Commission report and a panel headed by Aryadan Mohammed was studying the issues. He assured the members of the Brahmin community that no steps which harmed their interests in the long run would be taken by the Antony Government.

Felicitated

The meeting felicitated T.S. Gopalakrishna Iyer, former joint director of CIFT who won the life-time achievement award for contribution to the fisheries technology industry.

Distinguished students who won gold medals are Saranya D. Krishnan (tenth rank holder in SSLC ), L.R. Laxman (top ranker among the community members in CBSE XII), K. Sridhar (highest marks in CBSE X) and V. Poornima (Highest scorer in XII of HSC).

M.S. Tripuithura, Gomathy Mahadevan, K.L. Gopal, P.S. Anantharaman, K. Venugopal and S. Ramakrishnan spoke on the occasion.
