TIRUCHI, AUG. 2. Over 100 huts and 10 petty shops were gutted at Khaja Nagar here this morning. However, nobody was injured. The fire, caused by a spark from a kerosene stove in one of the huts, engulfed the entire area. Fanned by wind, the fire spread all over the area within minutes. Twelve trees between huts were also burnt, aggravating the impact. Water supply lorries were diverted to the spot to douse the fire. Fire service and rescue personnel cleared all LPG cylinders from the residential areas in the vicinity. The Minister for Labour Welfare, P. Annavi, accompanied by the former Minister, K.K. Balasubramaniam, MLA, visited the school and distributed a cash relief of Rs. 2.05 lakhs to the affected.
