KOCHI, AUG. 12. Protest is mounting against the proposed sale of the Bolghatty Palace with the former Supreme Court judge, V.R. Krishna Iyer, and the noted critic, M.K. Sanu, urging the Government to maintain the tourist spot in the public sector itself. Mr. Krishna Iyer and Mr. Sanu visited the palace today amid reports that the Government has plans to sell five acres of land at the palace to a private company. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Krishna Iyer said a people's movement had to be launched against the sale of the property. The Bolghatty Palace has been a part of Kerala for the last several decades. The Government should withdraw its decision to welcome private participation in various public sector units in the State. Mr. Sanu said the Government was acting against the interests of the people by selling off public sector companies. The Bolghatty Palace represents the rich cultural history of the State. Meanwhile, employees of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) decided to oppose the privatisation of the palace.
