HASSAN, AUG. 13. Chaos prevailed at the City Municipal Council (CMC) meeting convened here on Friday to discuss the issue of traders who have erected sheds in the space meant for parking two-wheelers. The president of the CMC, G.T. Kumar, adjourned the meeting till Monday. The Congress members B.K. Manjunath, Girija Shankar and H.K. Mahesh, and the Janata Dal (Secular) member C.R. Shankar, who raised the issue, disrupted the meeting and urged the president to evict the traders immediately. The meeting was adjourned for a few minutes. When the meeting resumed, the members urged Mr. Kumar to announce his decision. Agitated by this, Mr. Kumar adjourned the meeting and said that the traders, who had erected sheds, would be evicted by Sunday.
Priority list
Though the Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, and the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, were cooperating with him in improving civic amenities, a few CMC members were against any development, he charged. Mr. Kumar said that he was working for the development of the city and would hand over a list of immediate works to be taken up to the Minister at the earliest. Mr. Revanna had assured him of more funds for the integrated development of the city, he said. The meeting had to ratify the earlier resolution of the CMC to privatise the sanitation work and a few members were opposed to it, he said. The work of cleaning the city would be taken up with the help of available staff after Monday, Mr. Kumar added.
