HASSAN, AUG. 13. The Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, who heard the people at the zilla panchayat office here on Friday, said he had received 550 complaints relating to problems with the functioning of the city municipal council, the Nirmithi Kendra, the Hassan Urban Development Authority, shortage of foodgrains in the public distribution system, bus facilities, nepotism in releasing Janata houses and pending crop insurance claims. He said that he had tried to redress the grievances on the spot in a few cases and had referred the rest to the Deputy Commissioner. He would hold such meetings every month and seek clarification from the officials concerned regarding the cases he had referred to the Deputy Commissioner. Mr. Revanna said he had directed the Deputy Commissioner, K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gowda, to conduct such meetings in the taluks to redress the grievances of the people.
Visit
The Minister for Industries, Infrastructure Development and Civil Aviation would visit Hassan to study the potential to set up industries in the district on August 17. The Irrigation Consultative Committee meeting would be held on August 18 and the MLAs from the Hemavathi command area were expected to participate in the meeting. It had been decided to release water to the command area from Hemavathi Reservoir Project, he added.
Compensation
On the delay in settling compensation to farmers in Saligrama village in K.R. Pet taluk whose land had been acquired for a channel under the Hemavathi Project, he said he had cautioned the officials concerned that they would be held responsible for any delay in settling the compensation.
Belur-Halebeed
On the plans to include Belur-Halebeed in the list of World heritage sites, he said a team had been formed and after receiving a report, an action plan would be chalked out. To another question on curtailing the strength in hostels run by the Department of Social Welfare during the year, he said he had directed the officials concerned to admit students seeking admission. He said he would consult the Minister for Social Welfare on providing additional facilities to the hostels being managed by the department.
