HASSAN, AUG. 13. With a good south-west monsoon, the power situation in the State has improved and there is no shortage of power, the Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, has said. Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, he said that at a recent meeting of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) officials, it had been decided to set up about 100 sub and amalgamated stations in the State in the next five years for augmenting power supply. He also disclosed that it had been decided to take up work on the Bidadi and Bellary power generation units.
Bridges
On the condition of bridges in various parts of the State, Mr. Revanna said Rs. 200 crores had been earmarked for construction of new bridges and repairs to old ones, wherever necessary, in the second phase. A sum of Rs. 200 crores had been released in the first phase, he said and added that work on the Belur Bridge would be taken up in the second phase.
Roads
A sum of Rs. 1 crore would be allotted for laying roads in the taluks under the Pradhanamantri Sadak Yojane, and the officials of Karnataka Road Development Corporation had been directed to upgrade the Bantwal-Mysore Road, the Minister said. On the movement of overloaded trucks on National Highways, Mr. Revanna said he had directed the Deputy Commissioners, road transport officers and officials of the Public Works Department concerned in the districts to take action against the offenders. A notification would be issued shortly.
