Navy Chief visits Naval Base

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, AUG. 19. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Arun Prakash, inspected a 50-man guard of honour and reviewed a ceremonial parade of 22 platoons and the Naval Band at the Naval Base here today. The Admiral was on his maiden visit to the Southern Naval Command. Cdr. Amol M. Sabnis commanded the parade.

The Admiral arrived on parade after laying a wreath at the War Memorial. Vice-Admiral S.C.S. Bangara, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, received him.

Addressing the men, Admiral Prakash stressed the significance of training and the responsibility of the Southern Naval Command. "If training is improper, we cannot run our ships, submarines and aircraft efficiently in peace or use them in war," he said.

He was later introduced to the flag officers and commanding officers of ships and other Naval establishments at the Southern Naval Command.

The Admiral visited the Naval hospital, INHS Sanjivani, the Signal School, the Navigation and Direction School and INS Dronacharya. He will leave for Goa on August 20.
