Bus route extension

KOCHI, AUG. 19. No final decision has been taken on the request to extend the routes of buses plying in Vypeen along the Goshree bridges by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), which met here today. The Vypeen Private Bus Operators Association had given the applications to extend the routes of 110 buses now plying in Vypeen along the Goshree bridges till Ernakulam.

Baalu burnt

in effigy

Youth Congress workers burnt in effigy the Union Shipping Minister, T.R.Baalu, on Thursday alleging his complicity in delaying the Vallarpadom container terminal project. They took out a rally from the Congress office to the High Court Junction.

Dharna planned

Trade unions will observe August 20 as `Rights Day'. Their demands include the restoration of Provident Fund interest rate and protection of conventional industries. Dharnas will be held at various places in the evening, according to a press release.

BSNL staff protest

BSNL employees took out a rally today to the BSNL Bhavan in protest against the proposed hike in foreign direct investment in the telecom sector. They also demanded proportional representation to the unions.
