WARANGAL, SEPT. 3. The State Government has issued orders for the release of water from the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) to meet the drinking water needs of Warangal town. Accordingly, water would be transported to the Lower Manair Dam (LMD), from where it would be drawn through the Kakatiya Canal by the use of gravity.
Effort to save water
Meanwhile, the Joint Collector, Syed Omer Jaleel, who is coordinating the Irrigation, Public Health and Municipal Corporation Departments, has convened a meeting with private operators to hire tankers. It has been decided to supply water from the reservoirs using tankers to avoid transmission losses and save water. However, officials were not clear about the quantity of water that would reach Warangal town, though it has been decided to draw 2.5 tmc from the SRSP. Revenue and police officials of Warangal and Karimnagar districts have been instructed to patrol all along the canal to prevent farmers from drawing water to wet the standing crop.
