Cracker blast: boy dies of burns

By Our Correspondent

KAKINADA, SEPT. 3. A boy died of burns and three others, including two autorickshaw drivers, suffered severe burns when crackers, kept in an autorickshaw, blew off while the victory procession, taken out by cine hero Mahesh on the eve of the successful screening of his film `Arjuna', was in progress on the busy main road, near Samudra Apollo Hospital centre, here, on Friday evening. The boy, Allamapalli Nookaraju (12), a fifth class student, was travelling in the autorickshaw which was carrying a cine hero's fan with a bundle of crackers. When the procession from Bhanugudi junction reached the hospital centre amidst bursting of crackers, one of the crackers sneaked into the vehicle and caused the explosion of the entire stock.

Due to the impact of the explosion, the autorickshaw caught fire and the boy received 100 per cent burns while two others on board, including the driver, sustained severe burns. Another autorickshaw driver, who was standing by his vehicle, was also hit by the splinters and injured.
