Elephants kill farmer
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH,
SEPT. 3.
A herd of elephants trampled to death a farmer, Konduru Gangaraju (50), and damaged his paddy crop in the remote Rollamadugu Eguvapalle village, on the banks of Cheyyeru river, in Rajampet mandal in the early hours of Friday.
Gangaraju and Chandrappa Naidu slept in the fields to guard the crop, which was being harvested. When pachyderms came into the fields in the early hours, Naidu tried to ward them off in vain and fled. The elephants trampled upon Gangaraju and destroyed the crop in about an acre of land.
The Rajampet Forester, Srinivasulu, and the MRO, Srinivasulu, visited the fields and examined the damage.
