KOLLAM, SEPT. 3. The bodies of two more persons who were drowned when their trawling boat sunk after ramming into a ship off Kollam coast last Saturday were retrieved today. With this, the bodies of six persons, out of the seven who had drowned, have been retrieved. The bodies of four persons were retrieved by the Indian Navy divers on Thursday from the cabin of the boat. One more body was retrieved this morning when the naval divers continued the search operations. The body was identified as that of Jagan. The sixth body was found adrift in the sea by workers of trawling boats late this evening and was brought ashore.
Search operations
After retrieving Jagan's body from the boat, the divers made a thorough inspection of the boat's engine room and store. As no other bodies were found inside the boat, Commander Chandrashekar Verma, who led the team of Naval divers, wound up the operation. The team left for Kochi today. While the bodies retrieved yesterday are kept at the district hospital mortuary here, the two bodies retrieved today have been shifted to the Karunagapally Taluk Hospital mortuary. The deceased are natives of Vaniyakudi in Kannyakumari district. Their family members who have been camping here since Sunday last said they would take the bodies to Vaniyakudi tonight. With special permission, the post-mortem examination of the bodies retrieved was conducted in the night so as to enable the relatives of the victims to take the bodies to their native place tonight itself.
