THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 3 . Activists of the SFI will take out a march to the venue of the Centralised Allotment Process(CAP) for engineering courses on September 7 in protest against the Government order stipulating that only those students whose family annual income is below Rs. 1 lakh would be given the benefit of paying Government fee if they gain admission in the merit quota in the self-financing colleges. This was announced at a press conference here today by the SFI State secretary, T.V. Rajesh. The Government order also stipulates that even SC/ST students who get admission in the Government-run self-financing colleges should pay the fee stipulated by the K.T. Thomas commission. "Though the Government says it will reimburse these students later, many students in the SC/ST category would find it impossible to remit the Rs. 30,000-odd to be paid at the CAP venue. This has been done to limit the number of students who will get the benefit of paying Government fee," he said and added that through this action, the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, had proved that he was on the side of those seeing professional colleges as edu-business. By withdrawing the grading system for SSLC, the Government has used the students as guinea pigs. In protest against this, the SFI will organise `street classrooms' across the State on September 23, he said.
