`Success of surgery hinges on anaesthesia'

By Our Special Correspondent

CUDDALORE, SEPT. 6. With new surgical techniques being adopted now, it has become imperative for anaesthesiologists to evolve a suitable methodology for anaesthesia administration, said M. Rathinasabapathy, Registrar, Annamalai University.

He was inaugurating the south zone conference of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) organised under the aegis of Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital (RMMCH) in the university.

Methods and practices of anaesthesiology were changing more rapidly than in any other speciality. This field now stretched beyond the operating room into the emergency section, the critical care unit and the pain management centre.

Accordingly the skills of anaesthesiologists should go beyond pre-operative assessment and intra-operative management. In fact, the success of any operation depended upon the kind of anaesthesia administered.
