THRISSUR, SEPT. 11. A rousing reception was accorded to the Forest Minister, K.P. Viswanathan, and the United Democratic Front's Speaker-nominee, Therambil Ramakrishnan, at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office here today. The DCC president, C.N. Bhaskaran Nair, presided. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer, C.N. Balakrishnan, inaugurated the meeting. Among the DCC office-bearers belonging to the `I' group only P.A. Madhavan and Sunil Anthikkad were present. Among the MLAs from the district only T.N. Prathapan attended the meeting. Even the `A' group MLA, M.K. Paulson, was not present. However, a large number of Congress activists and leaders from all other groups participated in the reception. Replying to the reception, Mr. Viswanathan said as a Minister he had no group loyalties and would strive to take all sections in the party together. Pointing out that Thrissur district is getting a Ministerial berth after a long time, he said maximum efforts will be made for the development of the district. Mr. Ramakrishnan said he considered the nomination to the post of Speaker a recognition to the good work he had done as Speaker during the period of the previous UDF Ministry.
