UDF not serious on social justice: JD(S) leader

By Our Staff Reporter

KANNUR, SEPT. 11. The Janata Dal (S) Legislature Party leader, A. Neelalohitadasan Nadar, has said that the United Democratic Front's (UDF) evasive stand on the Narendran Commission report demonstrates its lack of commitment to social justice.

Inaugurating a State conference of the Kerala NGO Centre here today, Dr. Neelalohitadasan Nadar said that Oommen Chandy who had replaced A.K. Antony as Chief Minister was yet to make clear the stand of the new Ministry on vital issues concerning the people, including social justice, employment and agriculture. The Chandy Government appeared to have no vision, he said adding it could not be expected to change the situation in Kerala.

The JD(S) leader accused the UDF Government of playing the hide-and-seek game on the issue of implementing the Commission's proposal for special recruitment as assured by the UDF during the elections. The collapse of the Antony Government exemplified the fact that no repressive government could last forever. It was the Antony Government which had unleashed `repressive' measures against Government employees, he added.

He said the 100-day action plan announced by Mr. Chandy intended to take the people for a ride. Most of the schemes in the plan would have been implemented in the normal course of functioning of the Government, he added.
