Minister allays fears over Chellanam project

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, SEPT. 11. The Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation, has said that the Chellanam mini-fishing harbour will not be a threat to the development of the Mattancherry fishing harbour project. In fact, the former would have a fish-landing centre while the latter would be modernised. Talks in this direction are progressing.

The Minister was speaking at a felicitation organised to him by the Kerala Muslim Educational Association (KMEA) here today.

The Minister said he would make efforts to find more employment opportunities in the fishing sector which was facing a lot of problems.

The Local Self-Government Minister, K. Kutty Ahmed Kutty, who was also felicitated, said he would continue to work for the common man as he had been doing in the past. He vowed that he would work to ensure a non-corrupt establishment.

Lauding the services rendered by Mr. Ahmed Kutty in the past, Shamsuddin, jurist, said that at a time when there was a general degradation in public life, the Minister could maintain a clean image. Mr. Ahmed Kutty's exemplary work had earned him a reputation among the people, according to him.

Ibrahim Kunju, MLA, noted that Mr. Ahmed Kutty was a well read person and would be able to handle his portfolio well as he had been a panchayat member and panchayat president in the past.

Basheer Khan, Syndicate member, Mahatma Gandhi University, Beeran, Additional Advocate General, Muhammad Kutty Master, district panchayat president, and others spoke.
