Massive power cuts in NCR cities

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 14. With large areas in the entire National Capital Region, except Delhi, reeling under massive power cuts for the past several days, agitated residents are now taking to the streets.

A few days after the power riots in Meerut and blocking of traffic on busy National Highway by the residents of Gurgaon, agitated women of neighbouring Sahibabad today vandalised the local office of a power company.

Agitated over unscheduled power cut for over 24 hours since Monday night, women at Shalimar Garden in Sahibabad gathered outside the power company office at about 7-30 p.m. As the employees were unable to give a satisfactory reply, agitated residents, mainly women, vandalised the office.

Though the staff managed to escape unhurt, the agitators threw the files and papers into the drain. Doors and windows were smashed and furniture and other items were thrown around. They also blocked traffic on the busy road for about half an hour. Residents of the area alleged that unscheduled power cuts had become a routine in the past weeks.
