Naxals accuse police of killing PW sympathiser

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 19. Naxalites of the People's War took out a rally along with the body of a naxal sympathiser, Paturi Dasarath (30), at Settipalle Kaspa village in Sambepalle mandal last night accusing the police of kidnapping and killing him.

Dasarath of Bandakadi Malapalle village in Sambepalle mandal was found dead under suspicious circumstances near the Netaji circle in Rayachoti town on Friday night. A handbag and water packets were found near the body. The Rayachoti police registered a case of suspicious death.

The PW Seshachalam area secretary, Gangadhar, in a statement, charged the police with taking Dasarath from Settipalle Kaspa and killing him. He further alleged that another sympathiser, Rasheed, was also kidnapped and detained by the police and demanded his production in court.

Gangadhar claimed that Dasarath and Rasheed went to Rayachoti to get floodlights fitted over a `stupam' being built at Settipalle in memory of naxalite martyrs.

Parties warned

Warning that Congress leaders and the TDP legislator of Rayachoti, S. Palakondarayudu, would be held responsible if any harm was caused to Rasheed, he demanded that the Government take steps to ensure that Rasheed was produced in court.

The PW Bahuda Dalam commander, Satyam, who led the rally, charged the Congress with resorting to acts of betrayal while stating that naxalites have freedom to hold meetings.

Police deny charge

Meanwhile, the Additional SP, M. Lakshmi Reddy, refuted the PW charge and alleged that Dasarath might have died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and his parents confirmed that he was a liquor addict. There was no need for the police to kidnap or kill Dasarath, he said and added that the body bore no wounds. The body was sent for post-mortem although his parents sought handing over of the body without conducting it, he added.
