BANGALORE, SEPT. 21. The Minister of State for Labour and Wakf, Tanvir Sait, today said owners of all shops and establishments coming under the Department of Labour must display signboards in Kannada. Speaking to presspersons here, the Minister denied the charge made by the Kannada Development Authority Chairman, B.M. Idinabba, that Kannada was being neglected by the Department of Labour. He had met Mr. Idinabba today and assured him that Kannada would be implemented at all levels in the administration. Even the senior IAS officer in the department, who hailed from Bihar, wrote notes in Kannada. The Minister said that officers had been told to inform the owners of shops and establishments during the renewal of licence to display signboards in Kannada. However, other languages could also be used in addition to Kannada, he said. Asked whether he planned to issue a Government Order or amend the Labour Act to strictly enforce the display of Kannada signboards, Mr. Sait said he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh.
