Take up ring road project at one go: YSR

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 23. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday gave the go-ahead for the proposed alignment of the 159-km second ring road around the State capital and asked the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to take up land acquisition and road work at one go, instead of phase-wise development. The decision was taken after discussions with HUDA on important projects. Also, he wanted the proposed 22 new townships be planned and integrated with the 2nd Ring Road and other circulation network centres, including IT-business-related industries, other employment generation activities and residential development.

Panel to be formed

The HUDA chairman, D. Sudheer Reddy, and MD, G. Ashok Kumar, said the HUDA would mobilise funds on its own from financial institutions for the 2nd Ring Road. For facilitating quick transfer and handing over of Government lands and for acceleration of land acquisition and other processes, a committee comprising district Collectors of Medak and Rangareddy districts, the VC and MD HUDA, Principal Secretaries, Municipal Administration and Urban Development and Revenue is to be constituted.

The Traffic and Transportation Cell at HUDA would be revived to oversee preparation and implementation of master plans to decongest Hyderabad and surrounding municipalities by covering all modes of transport including the Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) and rain networks inside HUDA area. The Sanatnagar - Moula Ali by-pass for MMTS would also be taken up, connecting Uppal, Malkajgiri, Kapra, Alwal, Qutbullapur and Kukatpalli municipalities and Secunderabad Cantonment.

The Chief Minister also reviewed works pertaining to the Green Hyderabad Environment Project, projection of lakes, Buddha Poornima Project, Hussainsagar Lake Development, the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the bank's loan. The entire area around the Hussainsagar would be brought under one umbrella for speedy implementation and maintenance of developmental activities. The JBIC is said to have proposed funding for the Hussainsagar Restoration Project for which part of the land abutting the lake on Minister Road, was proposed to be handed over to HUDA. Five separate Effluent Treatment Plants along the Musi river have also been proposed.
