CHENNAI, OCT. 3. The Chinmaya Mission's week-long cultural festival began today at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre at Chetpet, with a recitation of the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gita by child prodigy, P.R. Kshirabdhinath. A vibrant drama, `Kamban tharum kaatchi', by the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra based on excerpts of Kamba Ramayana followed. K. Venkatasubramanian, former member, Union Planning Commission, asked people to be guided by truth and character, as advised by Swami Chinmayananda. Directed and produced by Swami Mitrananda, the Yuva Kendra has taken the play across the country, as well as abroad. The programmes included a concert by M. Balamuralikrishna and a presentation of Indian dances, `Murali Madhuri,' by Vipanchee Natyalaya, an institution for classical dance. This included Bharatanatyam by Shobana Ramesh. On October 5, Vani Jairam will render bhajans. On the following day, Ambika Kameshwar of Ramana Sunritya Aalaya will perform a dance ballet on the life and teachings of Ramana Maharshi. Chitra Visweswaran and her students will present `Dwaarakanatham Bhaje' a dance ballet on Lord Krishna on October 7. The programme will begin at 6 p.m. everyday.
