ADILABAD, OCT. 12. Gondi dialect will be the medium of instruction in 20 Girijana Vidya Vikasa Kendras (GVVKs) in the district after Dasara vacation. The Linguistics Department of Osmania University, Hyderabad, has prepared textbooks for first and second classes students. The Project Officer, ITDA, Utnoor, V. Sheshadri, said 10 GVVK schools each for teaching in Gondi and Kolami had been selected. Ten teachers were being given a five-day training at a workshop at Utnoor.
Use of dictionary
A Gondi-Telugu-Hindi dictionary containing 5,000 words and compiled by Mark Penny would be used for implementation of Gondi dialect as medium of instruction. The ITDA had identified 235 tribal students for giving them focused coaching in arts and crafts. The Kolam Ashram school, Adilabad, and some other schools had been made nodal schools for imparting training in handicrafts and music.
