By Our Staff Reporter
WARANGAL, OCT. 14. With the proposal to create a Commissionerate failing to materialise, the district police have sent a new proposal for creation of a `urban police district' according to the DIG, B.L. Meena. Interacting with newsmen here yesterday, Mr. Meena said if the proposal were cleared, the district would have enough personnel. The number of police stations would remain the same, but they would get uniform jurisdiction with adequate staff. In many police stations in the district, staff strength was not enough. For example, in Subedari police station, there were only 25 men, but it had 85 colonies, besides the Collectorate, under its jurisdiction.
Crime rate
The crime rate under the police station increased alarmingly during the past few months. Chain snatchings were also reported in the area. Moreover, the volume of traffic increased manifold, and there were not enough policemen. The wing did not have a separate DSP rank officer. Even the CI post was lying vacant for the last seven months. The strength would be doubled if the new proposal gets the Government nod.
