KANNUR, OCT. 16. The semifinal league of the South Zone inter-University football championship, featuring Annamalai, Calicut, Kerala and Banagalore, will begin at the Police Parade ground on Sunday. The four teams have already qualified for the all-India championship. The defending all-India champion Annamalai and Calicut scored impressive wins in Friday's quarterfinals. Annamalai beat MGU 3-0, while Calicut crushed MS, Tirunelveli, 4-0. Calicut, which won the championship for a record 18 times, is keen to keep its reputation. "This team is good and should have scored more goals against MS," said its coach Victor Manjila. Kerala, the second team from the host State, did well to get past a strong Madras side, while Bangalore showed a lot of fighting spirit after conceding two early goals against the host, Kannur. On Sunday, Annamalai takes on Bangalore while Calicut meets Kerala. Our Sports Reporter
