NEW DELHI, OCT. 16. The Delhi High Court on Friday ruled that notices be issued to all the respondents in the Pratima Kumari doping case when it took up the writ petition filed by her against the life ban imposed on her by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Justice S. K. Kaul ordered that show-cause notices be issued to all parties concerned and fixed the next hearing for January 25, next year. Appearing for Pratima Kumari, her counsel, Sushil Salwan, argued that the weightlifter, who tested positive in Athens prior to the Olympics, was not given even a chance to explain her case before she was banned for life by the IOA. Two other lifters, Sanamacha Chanu and Sunaina Anand, have also been banned for life by the IOA and the petition seeks to reverse their bans as well. The petition has also sought a proper enquiry into the episode as well as damages to the tune of Rs 5 crores. Pratima has listed the IOA, the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the Sports Authority of India and the Union Government among the seven respondents.
