Himanshu, Preetham share lead

VIJAYAWADA, NOV. 4. T. Purushothaman was sidelined by Himanshu Sharma and Preetham Sharma in the eighth and penultimate round of the National youth (under-25) chess championships at the Chenupati Ramakotaiah Municipal Corporation Kreeda Pranganam here on Thursday. The latter duo moved up with 6.5 points each, while Purushothaman's defeat against Himanshu in a queen's gambit declined game cost the Guntur lad his sole leader status.

The results (eighth round): T. Purushothaman 6 lost to Himanshu Sharma 6.5, Preetham Sharma 6.5 bt V. Somesh 5.5, R.R. Laxman 6 bt G. Balaji 5.5, T.R. Shanmuganathan 5 lost to M. Vinoth Kumar 6, Ram S. Krishnan 4.5 lost to Puneet Jaiswal 6, S.K. Sinha 5 drew with Debashis Das 5, Soham Das 4.5 lost to M.R. Lalith Babu 5.5, Vikas Sharma 4 lost to Ram Mohan Reddy 5, Priya Darshan 4.5 drew with J.K. Raju 4.5, R. Aswath 4.5 drew with Sujatha 4.5, A. Nayak 5 bt Govind Kumar 4, N. Pragna 5 bt Aniket Pawashe 4, Vipal Subhashi 3.5 lost to M. Shyam Sundar 4.5, Mahendra Venkat 3.5 lost to Biswajit Chatterjee 4.5.
