GURGAON, NOV. 4 . West Bengal and Karnataka won the boys and girls titles respectively in the AITA inter-State under-18 tennis championship at the NTA Complex here on Thursday. The top eight teams in the boys and girls teams qualified for the National youth games.
Boys (final): West Bengal beat Tamil Nadu 2-1 (Nirvick Mohinta lost to Ajay Selvaraj 2-6, 1-6; Rupesh Roy bt NItyaesh Nataraj 6-2, 6-0; Rupesh Roy and Nirvick Mohinta bt Ajay Selvaraj and Nityaesh Nataraj 6-3, 6-1).
Third place: Delhi beat Maharashtra 2-1 (Siddharth Gulati lost to Aniket Ghaskadvi 6-3, 0-6, 7-10; Vivek Shokeen bt Rohan Gide 6-4, 6-0; Siddharth Gulati and Vivek Shokeen bt Allan Moses and Rohan Gide 6-3, 6-3).
Girls (final): Karnataka beat Maharashtra 2-0 (Poojashree Venkatesh bt Shraddha Lodha 6-0, 6-2; Asha Nandakumar bt Parija Maloo 6-3, 6-2).
Third place: Tamil Nadu beat West Bengal 2-1 (Gayatri Krishnan lost to Shivika Burman 3-6, 3-6; Aarthy Doraisamy bt Rohini Das 6-4, 6-3; Gayatri Krishnan and Aarthy Doraisamy bt Shivika Burman and Rohini Das 6-4, 6-3).
1. West Bengal, 2. Tamil Nadu, 3. Delhi, 4. Maharashtra, 5. Andhra Pradesh, 6. Uttar Pradesh, 7. Assam and 8. Chandigarh.
