Yuki Bhambri moves up

BANGALORE, NOV. 4. India's Yuki Bhambri scored a hard-fought 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win over Ashot Khacharyan of Russia in the second round of the Nike Junior Tour International Masters tennis championship at Club Med, Pompadour, France, according to information received here.

But it was a forgettable outing for other Indians in the fray. In the under-14 singles, Akash Wagh went down to Alexander Gasparetz 2-6, 6-4, 0-6.

In the girls' section, the top-seeded Martina Baloghova of Slovkia beat Sushrutha Chinatal Reddy 6-0, 6-0 to make the quarterfinals. Another Indian contender, Aishwarya Puranam, also went down without taking a game against Katrina Hruba of Czech Republic.

In the team event final, Russia defeated Spain 30-23. — Our Special Correspondent
