PMK to demand quota for Muslims

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 7. The Pattali Makkal Katchi leader, S. Ramadoss, today said that his party would hold a convention either in December or January to demand reservation for Muslims.

Dr. Ramadoss, who participated in an Iftar party here, said that Muslims needed reservation in the education sector and employment as they were educationally backward. ``This was a fact confirmed by the national sample survey. Only 0.1 per cent of women in the community had studied up to any significant level,'' he said.

Taking adig at the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Dr. Ramadoss said there was a group in the State, which did not want to give reservation to Muslims. Once the PMK too had aligned with that group, but the partywould not commit the mistake again. Reservation was not a concession to be doled out, but was the right of the community, he said.

The PMK president, G.K.Mani, said that for the betterment of the community reservation in jobs and education was essential.
