Temperature

TIRUCHI, NOV. 20. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 27.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.1 degree Celsius.

Fatally hit

A seven-year-old boy was killed after a Madurai-bound van from Pondicherry hit him near Kallamedu today. The deceased has been identified as Jeeva of Kallamedu.

The police here said the boy was playing near the Tiruchi-Madurai main road when the van hit him. The boy died on the spot. Van driver Kumar has been arrested.

Held for making

revolver

The Cantonment police today arrested C.Srinivasan (49) of Pudukottai who had allegedly made a country-made revolver. The police said the seizure of the revolver last year, during the course of investigation of another case, revealed that Srinivasan had allegedly made it and sold it to for Rs. 10,000.

He was also wanted in another arms case registered by the Srirangam police.

Chain-snatching

Two chain-snatching incidents were reported within a few minutes from the Alwarthoppu area here today.

The police said a 20-year-old youth snatched a seven-sovereign gold chain from Pathumuthu while she was collecting drinking water. He also snatched a three-and-half sovereign gold chain from another woman Kathija.

8 students arrested

Eight students, who allegedly stole some electrical items from a sports stadium located in the OFT area near here, were arrested yesterday. Of them, two are college students.

The police said the students allegedly stole tubelight chokes, starter etc. and were consuming liquor when they were caught.

The Navalpattu police have registered a case.

Jewels recovered

The city police arrested Khader Mohideen (20), who allegedly stole gold ornaments and cash, and recovered stolen jewels worth Rs. 54,000 and Rs. 8,000 in cash.

The police here said the accused stole the valuables when marriage functions were being held at a kalyana mandapam.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 102.87 feet today.

The inflow was 6,421 cusecs and the discharge 100 cusecs.
