Shooting
By Our Sport Reporter
NEW DELHI, NOV. 24. Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Zorawar Singh grabbed the early lead after 75 shots in the men's trap event, but several shooters struggled under the fading light in the 48th National shotgun shooting championships here on Wednesday. Both Manavjit and Zorawar shot 73 apiece, but the defending champion, Mansher Singh, found it difficult to adjust under the winter sunset after having shot good scores of 25 and 24 in the first two details. He came up with 22 in the third to tie for the third position with Uttaranchal's Anirudh Singh. ``It's just the luck of the draw. There were bog shadows all over and targets were getting dark by the minute,'' said Mansher Singh of his 22. Early morning fog had lingered over the Tughlakabad hills for over two hours from the scheduled start, shortening the available time considerably. At least seven groups, comprising six shooters each, were yet to complete their third detail when play was called off due to bad light. Rajasthan's Shagun Choudhary won the women's trap event shooting an impressive 60 out of 75. Playing in the trap event for the first time in the Nationals, Shagun, who so far concentrated on double trap, touched 60, something that no Indian woman shooter has achieved in the past.
