PANAJI, NOV. 30. The "Film Bazaar", part of the 35th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) - Goa, was inaugurated this morning amid hopes that it would give a boost to Indian films in the international market. The Bazaar, housing 80 stalls, was inaugurated by the Information and Broadcasting Minister, S. Jaipal Reddy on the Festival Theatre Kala Academy campus here. The Goa Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, top filmmaker Shyam Benagal, producer Shantaram and a galaxy of the film industry were present on the occasion. The Film Bazaar during IFFI 2003 had housed just 30 stalls. Partly a Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) initiative, the Bazaar is being organised in association with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Films Development Corporation and the Entertainment Society of Goa co-host of the IFFI-Goa. The eight-day Bazaar will provide a platform to market Indian films for foreign buyers. The Bazaar is intended to be the catalyst in the globalisation of Indian cinema. The CII is aiming at creating a space for negotiation between the filmmaker and the financier, thus uniting the creative and the financial aspects of filmmaking.
