Railways extends facility

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, NOV. 30. The Railways has extended the facility to book train tickets through mobile phones to Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Bookings can be made through Hutch and Reliance mobile phone services.

The Railways is planning to take this facility to almost all important cities and towns by the next financial year. It would also launch a mobile phone-based service shortly wherein passengers can set up an "alert system" to know the arrival/departure status of a train. The service, which would be provided through a common number, would also be extended to know the Passenger Numerical Record (PNR) status.
