Habibullah is new Panchayati Raj Secretary

NEW DELHI, NOV. 30. Wajahat Habibullah will be the new Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Belonging to the 1968 batch of the Indian Administrative Service from Jammu and Kashmir cadre, he was till now Textiles Secretary. R.M. Premkumar, Chairman, Food Corporation of India, replaces him, an official press release said here today.

V.K. Malhotra, Managing Director, Food Corporation of India, has been elevated as Chairman of the Corporation in the rank and pay of Secretary. He belongs to the 1970 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

P.K. Hota of the 1969 batch of the Orissa cadre, at present Secretary, Department of Family Welfare, will also be Secretary, Department of Health, in place of J.V.R. Prasada Rao, who retired today.

Suresh Chandra, of the 1970 batch of the Maharashtra cadre, has been posted as Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests.

In other senior-level appointments, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Yashawant S. Bhave, of the 1972 batch of the Maharashtra cadre, has been posted as Additional Secretary, Department of Telecommunications. P.K. Mishra, of the 1972 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, at present Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence, has been posted as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Civil Aviation. Arun Kumar Rath, of the 1973 batch of the Jharkhand cadre, has been shifted as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Steel in place of S.Y. Quraishi.

Akhil K. Jain, of the 1973 batch of the West Bengal cadre, at present Joint Secretary, Home Ministry, has been posted as Member (Finance), National Highways Authority of India, in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary.
