Trinamool Congress bandh call illegal: High Court

KOLKATA, NOV. 30. The Calcutta High Court today declared illegal and unconstitutional the "Bangla Bandh" called by the Nationalist Trinamool Congress on December 3 and directed the party to withdraw the call and publish the decision in the media.

A Division Bench, comprising Justice Pratap Roy and Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, responding to a public interest litigation petition, also came down on the proposed 30-minute "Chakka Jam" programme tomorrow called by the Communist Party of India (Marxist's) labour wing, CITU, and directed the West Bengal Government to ensure that public and private vehicles plied normally.
