HYDERABAD, DEC. 13. Legislators participating in Assembly debates are turning spiritual these days! They are explaining the pros and cons of irrigation tenders, now under focus, in terms of "paap" and "punya.'' This phraseology was used by a member whose party's political ideology is more loyal to dialectical materialism than gods and goddesses. Resuming the debate on tenders on the third day today, Thammineni Veerabhadram, (CPI(M)) said irregularities were taking place in the administration at the instance of members. Because of this "sinning," many of them would directly go to hell while the doors of heaven would be open only to a few. He said there was no use of going even to Kanipaka Vinayaka, apparently a reference to the Congress member, D. L . Ravinder Reddy's challenge to N. Janardhan Reddy (TDP) the other day in the House to put off the lamp at the temple if the latter was found innocent in the irrigation scams in Mahabubnagar district. Mr. Veerabhadram said that IAS and IPS officers involved in scams would also go to hell. He recalled that the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had cursed Congressmen that they would go to hell for their "sins" while the Legislative Affairs Minister, K. Rosaiah, had said TDP leaders would receive divine punishment for obstructing the Government's irrigation programme. The CPI (M) member said people of the State were experiencing hell now due to non-completion of the irrigation projects.
