Telugu federation conference to be held in Bangalore

CHENNAI, DEC. 17. A slew of programmes, including seminars and discussion forums, have been planned for the World Telugu Federation's three-day sixth Biennial International Conference in Bangalore from December 24, the Federation president, V.L. Indira Dutt, told reporters here. On the first day, four eminent persons will be honoured with the Yarlagadda Prabhavathi-Shambuprasad Awards -- Hemalatha Lavanam (social work), Daruvuri Veeraiah (freedom fighter), Nataraja Ramakrishna (Andhra Natyam) and Bapu (cinema).

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and his Karnataka counterpart, N. Dharam Singh, will grace the inaugural session as chief guests. Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury will be among the guests of honour.

Current trends in Information Technology and Biotechnology will be discussed at a seminar the same day.

On the second day, Anitha Reddy and G. Narayanappa, who have contributed to the revival of handicrafts, will be honoured at a women's seminar. It will be followed by a seminar focusing on the Telugu language.

The former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu and the former Union Minister, M. Venkaiah Naidu, will be the chief guests on the final day.

About 4,000 delegates, including 200 from abroad, are expected to attend the conference.
