HYDERABAD, DEC. 22. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has rejected as "unwarranted" the Telangana Rashtra Samithi's criticism that the Government is neglecting irrigation in Telangana. It has also asked the Telugu Desam not to politicise the projects issue. Addressing a press conference, P. Venkata Rao, chief spokesman, K. Rami Reddy and Mohd. Jani, spokesmen, said they would appeal to the party president, K. Keshav Rao, to take up the issue of "controlling" TRS leaders with the Government.
`Focus on Telangana'
They said the Government was taking every possible step to realise the irrigation potential in Telangana region. Of the Rs. 46,000-crore projects planned all over the State, it had decided to take up Rs. 28,000 crores worth of projects in Telangana. These included Srisailam Left Branch Canal, Sriramsagar Flood Flow Canal, Bheema, Kalwakurthy, Ali Sagar, Godavari Lift Scheme (Devadula), Nettampadu, Dummugudem, Ichampalli and Yellampalli, spread over all districts of Telangana. These projects had been pending for a long time and the previous Telugu Desam Government did not show any interest in completing them. They said being part of the Government, the TRS should not speak against it. If it had any grouse it should settle it within the alliance framework. The Telugu Desam too had no right to talk about irrigation projects having neglected the sector for over nine years.
