HYDERABAD, DEC.22 . The Justice B.K. Somasekhara Commission, looking into the Yeleru land scam, today took a serious view of the absence of Vijay Kumar, an IAS officer and Director, Municipal Administration, and issued a show-cause notice to him. While issuing the notice, Justice Somasekhara directed him to appear on December 29. He warned of appropriate action if the officer failed to appear before the Commission on that date. He said the IAS officer, who was served notices about the sittings on August 15, October 29 and December 22, "deliberately and with the intention of avoiding summons" absented himself, and thereby obstructed the proceedings of the Commission. The judge said the officer had shown disrespect to the Commission. The counsel for Mr. Vijay Kumar said he could not attend today as he had to go to Delhi to attend a meeting. Two other officials, Poonam Malakondaiah, Commissioner, Agriculture, and Usha Kumari, Special Officer, Industries, Visakhapatnam, appeared before the Commission and sought some more time to prepare for defence.
