Bid to attack traffic inspector

A group of autorickshaw drivers allegedly tried to attack a Traffic Police Inspector when the latter asked one of them to remove a three-wheeler parked on the road at Shahinayatgunj on Tuesday.

The Goshamahal Traffic Inspector, C. Rajeshwar Reddy, was on duty at KK Devdi and asked a three-wheeler driver, Anil Kumar, to shift his vehicle as it was obstructing traffic. Meanwhile, local autorickshaw drivers picked up an argument with the Inspector and one of them, Janappa, allegedly pushed him. He even tried to snatch away the challan book from the official, according to the police.

Cheating case registered

The Gopalapuram police registered a cheating case against DN Enterprises following a complaint lodged by a depositor accusing it of failing to pay him Rs. 25 lakhs matured deposit. According to a complaint lodged by Y. Hanumantha Rao of Warasiguda, he had deposited Rs. 10 lakhs with Ch. Devender, managing partner of the firm, on April 7, 2000. Subsequently, he deposited another Rs. 10 lakhs. He alleged that the firm was not paying him the Rs. 25-lakh deposit even after the maturity period.

Woman duped

A driver of a housing company, Taher, allegedly cheated the company's manager, M. Vani Reddy, to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh after making her believe that brass pieces were gold. A resident of Hayathnagar, Taher approached Vani saying he had 22 tolas gold and was ready to sell it for Rs. 1 lakh.

On Monday, he gave her two metal pieces that appeared like gold after taking the cash. Vani realised her folly when a goldsmith confirmed that the metal pieces were brass and not gold. The Bowenpally police have registered a case.

Bag snatched

Two motorcycle-borne persons snatched away a woman's handbag containing Rs. 500 and $55 while she was travelling in an autorickshaw, near Srinagar Colony on Tuesday evening. A resident of Srinagar Colony, Haripriya, 27, was returning home from Khairatabad. When the vehicle reached the traffic signal, the culprits snatched the handbag and sped away. She also lost her car's RC book and three credit cards, the Banjara Hills police said.

Man robbed

Three unidentified persons robbed one A.V. Satyanarayana, 40, of his two-tola gold chain and Rs. 300 while he was returning from Public Gardens at Nampally on Tuesday evening. A resident of Venkateswaranagar in Jubilee Hills, the victim was returning home after visiting a DWCRA exhibition, the Saifabad police said.

30 tonnes of

steel recovered

The Cyberabad police on Tuesday arrested one, Balaiah, and recovered 30 tonnes of stolen steel. Investigations revealed that Balaiah and his accomplices had been looting lorries transporting steel.
