Tiruchi
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUCHI, DEC. 31 . The Sunday's tsunami, which orphaned many children, has facilitated the reunion of a 13-year-old boy of Pudukottai district with his parents after a gap of a month. S. Sathish (13), son of Swaminathan of Pudukottai district, had left his house in a huff a month ago, when his parents scolded him for not studying well. Since then his whereabouts were not known. In the meantime, Sathish reached Velankanni and was employed in a shop. He was on the Velankanni beach when the tidal wave struck on Sunday morning. But Sathish caught hold of a spongy gunny bag, climbed up a coconut tree and managed to escape. When every one alive started moving out of Velankanni, Sathish, who had no money to travel by bus, came walking to Tiruvarur. Later, he got into a train to proceed to Chennai, but got down at the Chidambaram station owing to starvation, as he had not taken food for two days. The members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Central Workshops, Goldenrock, Tiruchi, who were attending First Aid duty at Chidambaram in connection with the Arudhra Dharshan festival, spotted Sathish at the railway station on Tuesday and he was found to be in bad health. After treating him, the Railway Workshop employees brought him to Tiruchi. On the direction of Chief Workshop Manager, Goldenrock Workshops, G. R. K. Raju, the officials of the workshop succeeded in establishing contact with Sathish's parents with the help of the Pudukottai telephone exchange. An elated Swaminathan rushed to Tiruchi along with his relatives and took back his son after thanking the top officials of the Goldenrock Workshops and the volunteers of the St. John Ambulance.
