Campus Jottings: Enlightening experience

FOR THE 45 NSS volunteers of the K.S.R. College of Arts and Science, who participated in the special camp at Paramasivagoundampalayam near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, it was an enlightening experience as they learnt the various facets of rural life.

A survey by the volunteers revealed that most of the villagers were illiterate and unskilled labourers working in the spinning mills and powerloom units around Tiruchengode.

The girls found that the parents were hesitant to send their girl children to school.

The students also found that most of the villagers did not know their blood group and they knew little about HIV.

Armed with these data, the girls conducted an awareness campaign on HIV, a free dental camp and blood group identification.
