KOCHI, JAN. 15 . Oil conservation can be effective only in the presence of an effective public transportation system, the Fisheries and Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation, has said. Inaugurating the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight-2005 observed by the oil industry in the State today, the minister called upon oil companies to develop alternative sources of energy like bio-diesel for sustenance. B. Ashok, State-level coordinator for the industry, presided. Bose Joseph of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Tomy Mathew (Kochi Refineries Limited) and Jose K. George (IOC) also spoke on the occasion. The Minister also flagged off a conservation rally in which more than 1,000 school children participated. Various awareness programmes are planned all over the State as part of the fortnight observations from January 15 - 31, 2005.
