CHENNAI, JAN. 22 . Rich tributes were paid to `Kalki' R. Krishnamurthy and M.S. Subbulakshmi at a meeting organised by the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust here today. Both, along with T.Sadasivam and Rajaji, were instrumental in bringing out the weekly magazine, Kalki, the speakers said. A set of three works containing articles by Kalki Krishnamurthy, yet unpublished in book form, was released by K.S. Bakthavatsalam, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai. He also unveiled a portrait of M.S. Subbulakshmi. K. Rajendran, son of Kalki Krishnamurthy and managing trustee, said M.S. Subbulakshmi acted in the role of Narada in a film and contributed the proceeds earned from it to the magazine. Kalki Krishnamurthy, T.Sadasivam, M.S. Subbulakshmi, Rajaji and T.K. Chidambara Mudaliar together brought about a renaissance in Tamil literature, Mr. Rajendran said. Writer Bharathi Bhaskar said the stories of Kalki Krishnamurthy and the keerthanas of M.S. Subbulakshmi should be taught in schools.V. Gopalan, trustee, said the Trust, as its prime activity, provided scholarships to 162 students to the tune of Rs. 2.07 lakh last year. The meeting began with an invocation by Aishwarya, the grand-daughter of M.S.Subbulakshmi.
