Shikohabad incident: jawans handed over to Army
LUCKNOW,
JAN. 27.
The three jawans, arrested for allegedly killing five people by pushing them out of a train at Shikohabad railway station, have been handed over to the Army on the direction of a local court even as the police are collecting evidences to file a charge sheet against them.
``The Army took over the custody of the three Rajputana Rifle jawans on the directives of a local court for their court martial but the civil police too is collecting evidence against them to file a charge sheet,'' the Additional Director-General of Police, Government Railway Police, B.K. Bhalla, said here.
As the jawans, who were returned to the Army on Tuesday, were on leave at the time of the incident, a charge sheet will be filed against them in a civil court, Mr. Bhalla said.
On the fate of the fourth person, a Border Security Force sepoy, Mr. Bhalla said he was lodged in jail and he also would face trial.
The special judicial magistrate, Firozabad, had remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody.
The jawans had allegedly pushed out five persons, including a woman, from the Farukha Express on January 23 following a dispute over seats and they were crushed to death by the Sampoorna Kranti Express running on the adjacent track.
